Tame Life Trials

Either forced or by choice, a jape snake might live with an humanoid owner. These life trials are for these snakes.

You need to provide 2 prompts AND a lore image to finish a jape’s Life Trials. Lore image information can be found at the bottom of the page.
The lore image has to be done by the owner of the snake.
This training is required for breeding and certain quests.

Requirements for art:

  • Jape snake must be shown as full body.

  • Handler must be at least 50% visible unless otherwise mentioned.

  • Colors, shading, and background are required.

Requirements for literature:

  • 1200 words

  • +700 words per trained snake.

I - In The Beginning

Every pet owner get their pet in someway. Could’ve been in a specialized pet shop, a stable, or just in a trashcan. Who would’ve thought that you could find a new friend in a trashcan ?

  • Draw how your jape and its handler met for the first time.

II - Acceptance

By nature, japes are scared of humans, or just humanoids in general. Therefore, the new owner of one of these beasts will need to show it that it can trust other humanoids than its handler.

  • Show your handler teaching it's jape it can trust other humanoids.

  • Need to show the handler and another humanoid.

III - Show Beast

Jape snakes are intelligent enough to be trained tricks, and eventually even participate in a competition, or a show.

  • Show your handler teacher a trick to its jape snake(s).

  • Examples : Sit, give paw, play dead, roll, etc. Can also be more theatrical circus tricks.

  • More complicated examples : Agility tracks, fire circle, etc.

IV - Down moments are still memories

Owning a jape snake is just like owning any pets : there are up and down times. Illnesses and injuries are just part of life, and both the jape snake and its handler have to learn to deal with them at some point of their lives.

  • Show your handler either bringing their armanguis to a veterinary center or taking care of the illness or injury afflicting their snake themself.

V - No fighting!

Even when tamed, a jape snake might want to fight with another of its kind, or just pretty much anything. Even if just in a playful manner, this natural instinct should be either corrected, or at least controlled.

  • Show your handler teaching their snake not to fight, or at least, only to do so when asked to.

  • OR, show your snake fighting a living thing. In this case, the handler is not needed. (Ex : Another jape snake, a cat, a dog, a horse?, etc.)

VI - Little helper

Lesser jape snakes might not be able to be ridden, they can still learn to help as a service pet. From needing to wear a special tack to opening doors, your snake will need to learn in order to truly help someone.

  • Show your jape snake getting used to a special tack (You will need to design it yourself) OR learning to do stuff which could help an humanoid.

  • Examples : Opening a door, guiding someone, bringing back something, etc.

  • Lesser type jape snakes only.

VII - Get back on if you fall

Greater jape snakes are big enough to be ridden. But, with their sleek bodies, both the handler and the snake itself will need practice and adaptation. Falling off and getting back on the saddle are simply the little (painful) joys of learning.

  • Show your jape snake getting used to a having a saddle on its back, moving with it, or getting used to having either a dummy or an humanoid on its back.

  • Greater type jape snakes only.

VIII - From the wilderness I came

Sadly, even if illegal, the poaching, catching and selling of wild jape snakes and their eggs on the black market is still something the IJSPO (International Jape Snake Protection Organisation) are fighting to prevent.

  • Show your jape snake getting caught by poachers. Could be in a trap, a cage, etc.

  • OR, show an IJSPO agent taking the snake from poachers. In this case, your armanguis will most likely be either sick, underweight, wounded and/or terrified.

  • Handler isn’t needed.

IX - To the wilderness I go

Even if the jape snake is born in captivity, it may hear the call of the wilderness and may succumb to curiosity and try to escape to go explore the world.

  • Show your jape trying to escape, and failing.

Lore Image

The lore image is kind of a "free card" prompt. The goal is to give you more freedom and the opportunity to develop your character. You will need to describe the context behind the piece in the description.

  • While a handler is not needed, it is highly recommanded, handlers are usually a huge part of tamed japes' lives.
